Chicago is known for its lofty living spaces. Over the years, warehouse loft spaces have been converted into drop-dead gorgeous residential residences. This trend originally became popular in the SoHo neighborhood of New York City, when young artists began inhabiting the converted warehouse spaces because it was inexpensive. Today, what was once associated with old industrial warehouses and manufacturing plants, represent some of the real estate world's hottest urban properties for young professionals. Since loft-living has become trendy in bustling cities around the nation, it has helped to revitalize older neighborhoods, and bring life back to vintage, long forgotten building. Loft spaces are identified by their high ceilings, exposed brick, duct-work, and beams, hardwood floors, track lighting, metalic surfaces, wide open space with lots of light, and in the traditional definition---the space was formerly used for another purpose, and converted into a living space. In Chicago, there are many neighborhoods that are notorious for this type of living: Printer's Row, West Loop, Wicker Park, Logan Square, and Bucktown to name just a few.
Not all of us will be fortunate enough to be a chic city-living Chicago Loft owner, but we CAN incorporate many loft elements into our homes that add visual interest with a contemporary feel.
